AhlulBayt News Agency: Some 30 million pilgrims are expected to visit the holy city of Mashhad, northeast Iran, in coming says, an official said.
Mostafa Feizi, the deputy head of the Astan Quds Razavi, which is the custodianship of Imam Reza’s (AS) holy shrine, said the city is prepared to host the pilgrims.
The Municipality of Mashhad, the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Department, the Islamic Ideology Department and other related organizations are implementing plans to serve the pilgrims, he stated.
He noted that the rise in the number of pilgrims is happening concurrent with the last days of the lunar Hijri month of Safar in which the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS) falls.
There are 150 Moukebs (booths providing votive foods and beverages) have been set up around the holy shrine, according to the official.
Feizi also said that the Astan has prepared various religious and cultural programs for pilgrims during the last ten days of Safar, including Quran recitation circles and other Quranic activities, religious speeches, mourning rituals, and a book reading competition.
The 28th day of Safar, which falls on Monday, September 2, marks the demise anniversary of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hassan (AS). The 30th day of the lunar month, September 4 this year, is marked as the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), the eighth Shia Imam.
