Over five thousand pilgrims participated in a project to write a copy of the Holy Quran on cloth during the Arbaeen procession in Karbala.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Over five thousand pilgrims participated in a project to write a copy of the Holy Quran on cloth during the Arbaeen procession in Karbala.

According to a report by the official website of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, the completed Quran copy has been given the title of Arbaeen Mushaf.

Sheikh Hassan al-Mansoori, adviser to the general secretary of the Astan on Quranic affairs, stated that the project, titled "A Covenant with Quran," was carried out during the Arbaeen procession.

The completed Quran was then handed to Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Al-Karbalai, the official in charge of the Astan, who ordered it to be added to the shrine’s museum.

Sheikh Al-Mansoori explained that the Quran was written on a 360-meter-long velvet cloth, with each section measuring 12 meters.

The project saw participation from five thousand pilgrims, as well as scholars and clerics from various Islamic sects, under the supervision of the shrine’s Quranic department.

More than 21 million pilgrims from across the world took part in this year’s Arbaeen procession in Iraq.

Arbaeen is a religious event observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. This year, the day of Arbaeen fell on August 25.
