AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Iranian Quranic convoy dispatched to Iraq to hold Quranic programs for Arbaeen pilgrims concluded its activities after nearly ten days.
The members of the convoy left the holy city of Najaf for Iran on Sunday evening.
Seyed Mohammad Mojani, head of the Quranic affairs section of the Arbaeen Headquarters’ Cultural-Educational Committee, told IQNA that the delegation, known as the Noor Quranic Convoy, had 100 members and included several Tawasheeh (religious songs) groups.
They held more than 1,000 Quranic circles and recitation sessions during their stay in Iraq, he said.
Their last Quranic program was organized on Sunday and attended by a number of officials, including Iranian Cultural Attaché Gholam Reza Abazari, and Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization official Mohammad Mehdi Shakiba, he added.
Mojani said Hamid Reza Ahmadivafa, Hadi Esfidani, Omid Hosseininejad and Mohammad Hassan Hassanzadeh were the qaris who recited the Quran at the event.
The Miad choral recitation group from Qom also has a performance at the program, he noted.
He further appreciated the efforts of all of the organizations and individuals that facilitated and contributed to the dispatch of the Iranian Noor Convoy and helped it hold Quranic programs during the Arbaeen season.
He especially thanked the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization and the Committee for Inviting and Dispatching Quran Reciters.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Mojani said an agreement has been reached with the officials of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, based on which Iranian qaris will travel to Iraq to hold Quranic programs in the Arab country’s holy sites after Arbaeen as well.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of the grandson of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen fell on Sunday, August 25.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
The members of Iran’s Noor Convoy also go to Iraq to perform different Quranic and religious programs, including recitation of the Quran, Adhan (call to prayers), and Tawasheeh on the road between Najaf and Karbala during the Arbaeen march.
