Imam Hussein Holy Shrine hosts three daily Quranic sessions for women during Arbaeen

Various Quranic programs are held for women at the holy mausoleum of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, during the Arbaeen season.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Various Quranic programs are held for women at the holy mausoleum of Imam Hussein (AS) in Karbala, Iraq, during the Arbaeen season.

They include three daily Quran recitation sessions, according to Amal Ahmed al-Matouri, head of the women’s Quranic activities department of the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine.

She said they are held after the morning, noon and Maghrib (evening) prayers, the website of the Astan reported.

They have been warmly received by women pilgrims visiting the holy shrine, she said.

Al-Matouri added that a Khatm Quran (reading the Quran from beginning to end) is also held for women every day.

There is also the daily recitation of the Ashura Supplication and the Tawassul Supplication, she noted.

Religious and Quranic speeches on the theme of Arbaeen are among other programs for female pilgrims, she went on to say.

These programs are organized with the aim of enhancing the Quranic and religious awareness of the pilgrims and helping to raise a generation that is adherent to Quranic values and teachings, she stated.

Arbaeen is a religious event that is observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the 40th day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam, who was killed by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

Arbaeen is also known as the Ziyarat of Arbaeen, which means the visitation of Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine in Karbala, Iraq, where his body is buried. Ziyarat is an act of pilgrimage and devotion in Shia Islam.

Arbaeen is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims from different countries walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. The distance can range from 80 km to 500 km or more, depending on the starting point.

This year’s Arbaeen falls on August 25.
