AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An integrated plan is being implemented in Karbala, Iraq, to organize the arrival of mourning groups at the holy shrines of Imam Hussein (AS) and Hazrat Abbas (AS) during Arbaeen.
This is according to Muhammad al-Taweel, deputy head of the department of rituals and Moukebs of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.
He said the plan is implemented in cooperation with the Astan of Hazrat Abbas (AS) holy shrine, Al-Kafeel reported.
He added that the staff of the two Astans are stationed at different parts of the paths leading to the holy shrines to coordinate the arrival of the mourning groups in turn and to prevent congestion and crowding.
Millions of pilgrims from different parts of Iraq and other countries around the world have been arriving in Karbala to visit the two mausoleums and mark Arbaeen, the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS).
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
This year, Arbaeen falls on Sunday, August 25.
