AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs called on officials in charge of Arbaeen pilgrimage and those running Moukebs to pay more attention to promoting Salah (prayer).
Hojat-ol-Islam Abdol Fattah Navab addressed a ceremony held Tuesday to mark the official beginning of the Arbaeen season.
He said the best places in Moukebs should be allocated for Salah and the best carpets should be for those saying prayers.
The senior cleric cited a Hadith from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on the importance of Salah and said those planning for the Arbaeen pilgrimage should provide all the conditions for establishing Salah.
He also referred to Verse 41 of Surah Al-Hajj: “(God) will certainly help those who, if given power in the land, will worship God through prayer, pay the religious tax, enjoin others do good, and prevent them from committing evil,” to further highlight the significance of Salah.
Hojat-ol-Islam Navab further hailed the growing number of pilgrims attending the Arbaeen march and said those who started the annual pilgrimage centuries ago could not believe that millions of people would continue their path.
Arbaeen is a religious event that is observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the 40th day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam, who was killed by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.
Arbaeen is also known as the Ziyarat of Arbaeen, which means the visitation of Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine in Karbala, Iraq, where his body is buried. Ziyarat is an act of pilgrimage and devotion in Shia Islam.
Arbaeen is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims from different countries walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. The distance can range from 80 km to 500 km or more, depending on the starting point.
This year’s Arbaeen falls on August 25.
