Hamas mourns martyr Jarrar who succumbed to injuries after release from Israeli jails

The Hamas Movement mourned the wounded and the recently released Palestinian captive, Wafaa Jarrar, 50, who succumbed to injuries she sustained during her arrest from her home in May, which led to the amputation of her legs.

In a statement on Monday, Hamas hailed the martyr Jarrar for her sacrifices and efforts in support of the families of Palestinian martyrs and prisoners, “and now she falls as a martyr as a result of medical negligence in Israeli jails.”

Hamas called for intensifying efforts and solidarity events to support Palestinian prisoners and to engage in more confrontations with Israeli occupation forces (IOF).

The Jarrar family mourned, in a statement on Monday, the 50-year-old martyr, Wafa Jarrar, saying she was “a symbol of steadfastness and sacrifice.”

The statement added that she has succumbed to her injuries and died as a martyr “after more than two months of being injured and her two legs amputated, following her arrest from her house in Al-Marah neighborhood in Jenin on 21-05-2024.”

The IOF arrested Jarrar from her home on May 21 during a raid into Jenin city and its refugee camp.

After her arrest, the IOF announced that she was injured and transferred to the Israeli Afula Hospital. She was issued an administrative arrest warrant for four months.

The serious injuries that she suffered led to the amputation of her legs from above the knee, in addition to other injuries allover her body, leading to complicated health issues.

After the deterioration of her health condition, Israeli occupation authorities released her to evade responsibility for her treatment in Israeli hospitals.

Jarrar is a local activist and coordinator of the Association of Martyrs and Prisoners of Jenin. she is a mother of four children and the wife of prisoner Abdul Jabbar Jarrar, 58, who has been detained since February 7, 2024. He had previously been detained for a total of 16 years In Israeli prisons.
