President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran commended the Baghdad government for coordination and cooperation with the Islamic Republic to enhance the serviced provided to Arbaeen pilgrims.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): President Masoud Pezeshkian of Iran commended the Baghdad government for coordination and cooperation with the Islamic Republic to enhance the serviced provided to Arbaeen pilgrims.

Pezeshkian added that efforts are necessary to organize the annual Arbaeen pilgrimage without any problems.

He made the remarks in a Saturday meeting of Iran’s Arbaeen Headquarters, which was attended by representatives of different related organizations.

Pezeshkian said he had been worried that the change of government might cause problems in the preparations for Arbaeen season, but the reports presented to him removed his worries.

All the bodies and organizations participating in the organization of the Arbaeen march must do their best to fulfil their undertakings in the best way, the president underscored.

He also said that most of the activities related to the Arbaeen march are done by people themselves, and the government only plays the role of support and backup.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Pezeshkian described the Arbaeen event as an opportunity to promote the culture of seeking the truth and justice.

Everyone should try to spread the approach dominating the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS), which was seeking the truth and justice, he went on to say.

Arbaeen is a religious event that is observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the 40th day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam, who was killed by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

Arbaeen is also known as the Ziyarat of Arbaeen, which means the visitation of Imam Hussein’s (AS) shrine in Karbala, Iraq, where his body is buried. Ziyarat is an act of pilgrimage and devotion in Shia Islam.

Arbaeen is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims from different countries walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. The distance can range from 80 km to 500 km or more, depending on the starting point.

This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 25, depending on the moonsighting.
