AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization said registration for those willing to take part in this year’s Arbaeen march in Iraq will start on Sunday.
The organization said in a statement on Thursday that the registration process will open on the first day of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram (July 7).
Those interested should refer to the Samah platform at samah.haj.ir to sign up for participating in the spiritual procession, the statement said.
The pilgrims are also required to choose an insurance coverage in order to register for Arbaeen pilgrimage, it added.
The organization also urged the pilgrims to make sure their passports will be valid for at least six month when they want to leave the country for the Arbaeen march in Iraq.
The Arbaeen mourning ceremony is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world.
It marks the 40th day after Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS). This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 25, depending on the moonsighting.
Each year, a huge crowd of Shias flock to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located, to perform mourning rites.
The pilgrims, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to the holy city.
