The Islamic Center Hamburg has conducted the inaugural Ashura seminar, aiming to promote a good understanding among Europeans of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Islamic Center Hamburg has conducted the inaugural Ashura seminar, aiming to promote a good understanding among Europeans of Imam Hussein’s (AS) uprising.

The seminar, which took place at the center on Monday, covered a range of topics including the 'Ashura event', 'Muharram and Safar', the 'history of Ashura', 'ethical interpretation of Imam's (AS) movement', 'Ashura movement from the perspective of Orientalists', and 'The role of Ashura narration in managing suffering and imparting meaning to life'.

During the opening ceremony, Hojat-ol-Islam Muhammad Hadi Mofatteh, the imam and director of the Islamic center, highlighted the significance of Ashura within Shia culture.

He stressed the collective responsibility of European clerics and missionaries to elevate the scholarly standards of Shia religious discourse across the continent.

Mofatteh elaborated on the seminar's goals, emphasizing its dedication to presenting an unaltered narrative of the Ashura event and the movement of Imam Hussein (AS).

The seminar aimed to engage the youth in Europe with a compelling and precise portrayal of these historical events, he added.

The seminar witnessed the participation of over 60 clerics and missionaries from various European nations, including Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Sweden, Austria, France, and Denmark.

In recognition of their participation, the attendees were honored with course certificates from the Hamburg Islamic Center.

Muharram, which will start on July 7 this year, is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar.

Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.

The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Muawiya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
