AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Mourning rituals marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) will be held in more than 3,000 Imamzadehs (holy shrines), an Iranian official said.
They will be organized in Imamzadehs across Iran during the first ten days of the lunar Hijri month of Muharram (starts on July 7), the cultural and social deputy of the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said.
Hojat-ol-Islam Gholam Reza Adel made the remark in a meeting with the country’s preachers and elegists in Rey, south of Tehran, on Monday.
The cleric noted that the holy sites will also host various Quranic, religious, cultural and social programs during Muharram.
He also highlighted the Awqaf organization’s support for mourning rituals of Muharram as well as ceremonies marking Arbaeen.
Muharram is the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar.
Shia Muslims, and others in different parts of the world, hold ceremonies every year in the month of Muharram to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) and his companions.
The third Shia Imam (AS) and a small group of his followers and family members were martyred by the tyrant of his time - Yazid Bin Muawiya, in the battle of Karbala on the tenth day of Muharram (known as Ashura) in the year 680 AD.
