Sheikh Naim Qassem: Israel sinking deeper in swamp of Gaza's war of attrition

A senior Hezbollah official has cast doubts on the United States’ sincerity to stop the Gaza war, stressing that Israel is “sinking deeper and deeper into the swamp" of the attrition war as it has failed to achieve a single victory after 264 days of a bloody onslaught.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Hezbollah official has cast doubts on the United States’ sincerity to stop the Gaza war, stressing that Israel is “sinking deeper and deeper into the swamp" of the attrition war as it has failed to achieve a single victory after 264 days of a bloody onslaught.

“Americans are not looking to stop the war; but rather want the aggression to continue. What should resistance fighters do in such a situation? They have no choice but to fight on. They are capable to do so. We are certain that Israel will sink deeper and deeper into the swamp of this attrition war and will not achieve any of its goals as it has been the case up until now,” Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Tuesday.

He added “Israeli authorities vowed to crush and destroy Hamas, but they will never be able to do so. They also wanted to release their captives through military offensives, but they failed as well. Moreover, the Zionists said they wanted to push out Gazans for their own benefit, but they could not and will never succeed.”

The senior Hezbollah official went on to criticize the weak positions and silence of the international community vis-à-vis the barbaric Israeli crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.

“The battle in Gaza exposed the fact that there is no such thing as international law, respect for humanity and human dignity. World powers are acting with sheer hypocrisy in the name of international law, seek to dominate oppressed nations and plunder the world's wealth through allegations of advocating human rights,” Sheikh Qassem said.

He also criticized the US and its Western allies for exercising double standards regarding human rights, saying, “These countries claim to defend human rights. However, they stand against human rights when the issue concerns Israeli interests.”

“Therefore, there is no way other than resistance to confront aggressors and invaders. By the grace of God, the battle will continue.”

Commenting on the latest visits of US and European delegations to Beirut to defuse tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, Sheikh Qassem said a complete ceasefire in Gaza will put an end to clashes along the border between Lebanon and the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories.

He praised Hezbollah as the main party that liberated Lebanese territories from the clutches of the Israeli occupation back in 2000, inflicted another defeat on the Tel Aviv regime in 2006, and dealt a major blow to the 2017 project which sought to plunge Lebanon into chaos.

“The deterrence equation created by Hezbollah against the occupying regime since 2006 has made Zionists not dare Lebanon invasion. All this shows that the resistance group is fairly capable of liberating the occupied Lebanese lands and protecting the Arab nation,” Sheikh Qassem said.

The top Hezbollah official underscored that resistance is the sole way to achieve independence and prevent the domination of Israel as a “cancerous tumor” over Palestinian lands and the entire West Asia.

Hezbollah has been carrying out almost daily rocket attacks on Israeli positions in retaliation for the regime’s aggression against Lebanon and in solidarity with Palestinians.

The genocidal war in Gaza has killed at least 37,658 Palestinians, predominantly women and children so far.

At least 480 people have also been killed on the Lebanese border, including 93 civilians, according to a tally by AFP.

Two Israeli wars waged against Lebanon in 2000 and 2006 were met with strong resistance from Hezbollah, resulting in the retreat of the regime in both conflicts.
