AhlulBayt News Agency: Sheikh Saleh Al-Shaiba, the chief key holder and caretaker of the Holy Kaaba, was laid to rest on Saturday morning following a prolonged illness.
Al-Shaiba was the 109th key holder of Islam’s holiest site in a lineage that traces back to the companion Uthman ibn Talha.
His funeral prayers were offered at Masjid Al-Haram, and he was subsequently interred at Al-Mualla Cemetery, as reported by Saudi agencies.
The Banu Shaiba tribe has been the custodian of the Kaaba for approximately 1,600 years, a role referred to as "Sadna Baytullah."
Their sacred responsibilities include the maintenance and care of the Kaaba, managing its opening and closing, cleaning, and overseeing the preparation and repair of its cover as necessary.
The tradition dictates that the key to the Kaaba remains constant, even if its door is replaced.
The privilege of being the key holder is a hereditary position within the Al-Shaiba family, as it was confirmed by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
