Palestine top issue during Arbaeen march: Official

Head of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said the motto of liberation of Palestine should be the main issue in the upcoming Arbaeen march.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Head of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said the motto of liberation of Palestine should be the main issue in the upcoming Arbaeen march.

Hojat-ol-Islam Seyed Mehdi Khamoushi made the remark in a meeting held in Tehran on Sunday to discuss planning for the Arbaeen pilgrimage.

He said that after the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood carried out by Gaza resistance forces and Operation True Promise carried out against the Israeli regime by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), making the most of the Arbaeen ceremonies to promote the issue of Palestine is of great significance.

He added that photos of the martyrs of resistance should be displayed at Moukebs (resting places offering food, water and services to Arbaeen pilgrims).

Hojat-ol-Islam Khamoushi further highlighted the steadfastness and resistance of the people of the Gaza Strip in the face of Israeli aggression and atrocities, saying a new chapter in the culture of self-sacrifice and martyrdom is forming in the world.

Arbaeen pilgrims should carry photos of the resistance in Gaza and Palestine to show to the world that Gaza will be saved with the culture of Imam Hussein (AS), he went on to say.

Arbaeen is a religious event that is observed by Shia Muslims on the fortieth day after the Day of Ashura. It commemorates the 40th day of martyrdom of Hussein ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the third Shia imam, who was killed by the army of Yazid I in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE.

It is one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world, with millions of Shia Muslims from different countries walking to Karbala from various cities in Iraq and neighboring countries. The distance can range from 80 km to 500 km or more, depending on the starting point.

This year’s Arbaeen is expected to fall on August 25, depending on the moonsighting.
