AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Muslim scholars in Bahrain selected the motto for this year’s Day of Ashura.
They said in a statement that “With Hussein (AS) Forever” will be the motto of Ashura, the Bahrain Mirror reported.
It is in line with strengthening the concepts of reform and struggle against falsehood, they said.
This motto is also aimed at elevating religious and moral awareness about the uprising of Imam Hussein (AS), the importance of the third Imam’s status in defending the truth and fighting with falsehood, and the significance of reviving genuine Islamic values, the statement said.
It added that the values Imam Hussein (AS) defended included justice, truthfulness, social unity, and enhancing the concepts of reform, Tarbiyah (development of character and the training of people in different aspects) and Irshad (guidance).
The statement went on to say that the motto “With Hussein (AS) Forever” is a constant invitation to the faithful to not only remember the sacrifices of Imam Hussein (AS), but also make efforts to reach the values upheld by the Imam (AS).
Ashura is the culmination of a 10-day annual mourning period in the lunar calendar month of Muharram for Imam Hussein (AS), who was martyred along with his 72 companions in the Battle of Karbala in southern Iraq in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
The Muharram ceremonies symbolize the eternal and unwavering stance of truth against falsehood and humanity’s struggle against injustice, tyranny and oppression.
Each year on Ashura, the mourners, dressed in black, march in mass processions, listen to elegies and hold noon prayers, with benefactors distributing votive foods.
