Belgian institute honors Quran memorizers

A ceremony was held in Antwerp, Belgium, to honor young memorizers of the Holy Quran.

AhlulBayt News Agency: A ceremony was held in Antwerp, Belgium, to honor young memorizers of the Holy Quran.

The Jisr al-Amanah Institute organized the ceremony on the weekend, according to Nadurcity website.

The institute is active in holding courses in Belgium on memorization of the Quran, Islamic sciences and Arabic language.

A number of religious and Quranic figures, including Shikh Tahir al-Tajkani, the president of the Moroccan Scholars European Council, were present at the ceremony.

It began with recitation of verses from the Quran by qari Sheikh Muhammad Ma’rouf, followed by a speech by Sheikh bin Alwash Abdul Rahman, the head of the institute.

He elaborated on the activities of the institute and efforts to promote Quran memorization and learning Islamic sciences and Arabic.

He called on the Muslim community in Belgium to stick to their Islamic identity and the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Abdul Rahman also highlighted the prominent status of Quran memorizers in this world and the next.

Those memorizing the Holy Quran at the institute were then praised for their achievement and received gifts such as Umrah packages and certificates of honor.

Belgium is a Christian-majority country in Europe.

Islam is the second largest religion in Belgium after Christianity. The exact number of Muslims there is unknown but various sources estimate that 4.0% to 7.6% of the country’s population adheres to Islam.
