AhlulBayt News Agency: The Department of Intellectual and Cultural Affairs at the Al-Abbas's (p) holy shrine confirmed that the mission of the al-Fadl Center for the maintenance and preservation of manuscript heritage and the documentary archive is to repair damaged manuscripts and rare heritage books."
The director of the restoration Department of the center, Mr. Latif Abdul Zahra, said:"the process of repairing manuscripts, heritage books and damaged rare papers is the responsibility of the technical staff at the center using the latest materials and advanced devices to restore documents."
"Manuscripts go through several stages before their maintenance, as the center documents the status of the manuscript and its thematic sequence and prepares a report describing its condition before the maintenance process,"he added.
"The restoration process is carried out after removing dirt and dust from the surface of the manuscript and preparing Japanese paper and paste, which is mixed with adhesives to form a stuck solution that is placed on the (vacuum) device used to withdraw liquids, and keep the paste to compensate for the missing parts of the manuscript and repair cracks and holes in it without leaving any trace on the papers, because the materials used are natural can be easily removed,"said Abdul-Zahra.
