AhlulBayt News Agency: A Lebanese scholar says the martyrdom of Iran’s late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was a loss for the Muslim Ummah.
“Ayatollah Raisi had an exceptional character and he faithfully adhered to the principles of Islam and followed the teachings of his ancestor, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),” Sheikh Zuhair Jaid, the coordinator of the Lebanese Islamic Amal Front, told Iqna News on Sunday.
“Raisi was a devoted servant and lover of his nation, a staunch supporter of the oppressed and free people of the world, particularly the Palestinian nation,” he added.
Raisi also championed all resistance forces in their struggle against the oppression and aggression of the Israeli regime and the US, the scholar added.
He also praised Amir-Abdollahian, noting that the late diplomat consistently supported resistance forces and oppressed people throughout his life.
“He rightfully earned the title of foreign minister of the resistance axis,” Jaid said.
Beyond his role as Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs, he stood out on the international stage as a flag-bearer for the resistance, the scholar said.
“Amir-Abdollahian was tireless in defending the resistance, Palestine, and Gaza,” he said.
“The loss of Raisi and Amir-Abdollahian, and their companions was not only a painful tragedy for the Islamic Republic of Iran but also a profound loss for the entire Muslim Ummah,” he added.
“The people of Lebanon, Palestine, Gaza, and the resistance forces felt this loss, especially during a time when the Palestinian nation faced the genocidal war of the Zionist enemy and vicious American statesmen,” Jaid noted.
A helicopter carrying President Raisi, Foreign Minister Amir-Abdollahian, Friday prayers leader of Tabriz Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e-Hashem, Governor of East Azarbaijan Malek Rahmati, the commander of the president’s security team, two pilots and a flight crew crashed in the northwestern province of East Azarbaijan on May 19, 2024. Their bodies were found on Monday after an extensive night-long search operation.
Iran observed five days of national mourning. President Raisi was laid to rest at Imam Reza (AS) shrine in Mashhad and Amir-Abdollahian was buried at the holy mausoleum of Hazrat Abdul Azim Hassani (AS) in Rey, south of Tehran, marking the end of days of funeral processions attended by millions of Iranians in several cities.
