Hamas welcomes ICJ ruling demanding immediate cessation of Israel’s Rafah attack

The Hamas Movement welcomed the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) demanding Israel to halt its aggression against the city of Rafah immediately, and all measures that lead to genocide, and bring aid into all areas of the Gaza Strip and allow international committees to enter to investigate genocide crimes.

Ahlulbayt News Agency: The Hamas Movement welcomed the ruling of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) demanding Israel to halt its aggression against the city of Rafah immediately, and all measures that lead to genocide, and bring aid into all areas of the Gaza Strip and allow international committees to enter to investigate genocide crimes.

The Movement said, in a press statement on Friday, “we expected the ICJ to issue a ruling to halt the aggression and genocide against our people in the entire Gaza Strip, and not just in the Rafah Governorate.”

Hamas called on the international community and the United Nations to put pressure on Israel to immediately oblige it to this ruling and to proceed by real and serious means to implement all UN resolutions that force the Israeli occupation army to halt the genocidal war it has been committing against the Palestinian people for more than seven months.

On Friday evening, the ICJ issued a binding decision for Israel to immediately stop its military attack on Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.

“Israel should stop its military operations or any other actions in Rafah,” the President of the International Court of Justice, Nawaf Salam, said during his recitation of the ruling regarding South Africa’s request to stop the Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.

Salam stressed that Israel should take effective measures to keep Rafah crossing always open to bring in aid according to the provisions of the Genocide Convention.

The ICJ ruling called on Israel to submit to the court within a month a report on the steps it would take, indicating that Israel did not abide by the court’s previous decisions.

He pointed out that the living conditions of the residents of the Gaza Strip have deteriorated dramatically, stressing that the humanitarian situation in Rafah is catastrophic following weeks of bombardment.

About 800,000 people have been displaced from Rafah since the start of the ground invasion on May 7, he elaborated.

Salam stressed that Israel has not provided enough to ensure the safety and security of the displaced from Rafah.

“According to the genocide convention, any additional operation in Rafah may lead to partial or total destruction. Israel must stop its military attack on Rafah immediately,” he said.
