Report / West Asia saddened: Messages of condolences pouring into Iran over loss of its President, companions

With announcement of martyrdom of Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi and his companions in a helicopter crash in northwest of the country, heads of state and officials of various countries shared their sympathy with Iran, and in some regional countries days of mourning were announced. Messages from senior officials in the region flooded Tehran, showing the sympathy of regional nations with the Islamic Republic.

Ahlulbayt News Agency: With announcement of martyrdom of Iranian President Seyyed Ibrahim Raisi and his companions in a helicopter crash in northwest of the country, heads of state and officials of various countries shared their sympathy with Iran, and in some regional countries days of mourning were announced. Messages from senior officials in the region flooded Tehran, showing the sympathy of regional nations with the Islamic Republic.

Days of mourning in regional countries announced

Since the initial hours of announcement of President Raisi’s demise, Pakistan said that it announced a day of mourning as a mark of respect for the Iranian president and his companions and the flags flew at half mast on Monday.

Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of the President of Iran on his X page, saying: "Pakistan will hold a day of mourning as a mark of respect for the President and his companions and in solidarity with brotherly Iran, and its flag will be flown at half-mast."

In addition to Pakistan, Lebanon was also one of the other countries in the region that announced public mourning on the occasion of the martyrdom of the Iranian president. According to an Al-Mayadeen news network report, following the passing of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Lebanese government announced three days of public mourning. According to the order of the caretaker Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Mikati, during these three days, all the flags in the government institutions will fly at half mast, and the Lebanese radio and television programs will be adjusted to this painful event.

Sympathy with Iran

Many regional countries have sent messages of sympathy and condolences with Iranian people and government.

We worked with the Iranian president:  Syrian President Bashar al-Assad announced in his message that "we offer our heartfelt condolences to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran and to the government and people of Iran... We were working with the late president of Iran so that the strategic relations between Syria and Iran would always remain prosperous."

We stand beside Iran in these moments of sadness: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of Iran's president and foreign minister. He emphasized in his message: "Turkey stands by its neighbor in this difficult and sad situation."

President Raisi had an indescribable role in boosting Tehran-Moscow relationship: Russian President Vladimir Putin in a message of condolence on the demise of Ayatollah Raisi and his accompanying delegation, said: " The late president of Iran played an indescribable role in strengthening relations between Tehran and Moscow.

We stand by Iran: Jordanian king in reaction said that in these difficult conditions, "we stand by our Iranian brothers."

Iran lost a distinguished politician: President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in reaction to the martyrdom of the president of Iran wrote in an X message that Iran lost a prominent politician who spent his life in the service of his country.

Egyptian president expresses condolences to Iran: Egypt's presidency office issued a statement following the plane crash in Iran and the martyrdom of the country's president and foreign minister, saying: "Abdel al-Fattah al-Sisi, the president of Egypt, sincerely condoles the passing of the president and foreign minister of Iran to the nation of this country."

We share Iran's grief: New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peter's in an X post expressed his condolences on the painful incident. He said: "We share the grief of the Iranian people. We offer our condolences to the family of the president, the foreign minister and their accompanying delegation."

Deeply shocked: Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in a message in Farsi condoled Iran on the its loss. "I was deeply shocked to hear the news of the passing of Iranian President Dr. Ibrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-abdollahian in a helicopter crash. I remember our numerous meetings with them, the last time was in January 2024. We offer our condolences to their families. We are with the Iranian people in this sad incident."

Belarus lost a true friend: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus said that this tragedy is not only a loss for the Iranian nation, but Belarus has also lost its true friends.

I am shocked: President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela released a message expressing his condolences on the martyrdom of Iranian president. "I was shocked by the hard news about loss of President Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran... Killia, who is a friend of his wife, and I am very sorry to say fairwell to an exemplary person, our brother Ibrahim, who was an extraordinary world leader, a great human being, a defender of the sovereignty of his people, and an unconditional friend of our country." The Venezuelan president addressed the Iranian leader in his deep condolence, saying Iran is the" example of dignity, ethics, and resistance."

We support the friendly and brotherly nation of Iran: Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani posted a message on X, saying: "With great sadness, we received the news of the passing of the president of Iran, the foreign minister of this country and a group of their companions following the crash of the helicopter carrying them... We offer our deepest condolences to the Supreme Leader, the government and the people of Iran following the incident that happened to the president of this country... We declare our support to the friendly and brotherly nation of Iran and other officials of this country following  this painful tragedy."

People of China lost a good friend: President Xi Jinping of China condoled Iran for its loss on the behalf of the people and government of China." President Xi Jinping expresses his condolences to Mohammad Mokhbar, the first vice president, on the passing of Sayyed Ibrahim Raisi, the president of Iran, and expresses his condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people. President Xi Jinping emphasized that the heartbreaking death of the Iranian president is a great loss for the Iranian people and the Chinese people also lost a good friend," said foreign ministry spokesman.

Resistance groups' reactions

In addition to officials of various countries, resistance groups across the region sent their messages of sympathy and condolences to Iran.

Popular Front for Liberation of Palestine: In a message, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine announced its solidarity and standing with the Iranian nation and leadership and emphasized that it is confident that Iran will overcome this tragedy.

Message of Sayed Amar al-Hakim: Sayed Amar al-Hakim, the leader of the Iraqi National Wisdom Movement, in a message said: "We receive with deepest grief the news of the martyrdom of Ayatollah Sayyed Ibrahim Raisi, the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and a prominent Islamic political figure, as well as a number of his companions, especially Mr. Hussein  Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Friday Prayer imam of Tabriz and the Governor of East Azerbaijan due to the crash of a helicopter carrying them in the northwest of Iran. We honor the prominent role of the deceased in the revolutionary, political and cultural life of Iran, the region and the world, and we offer our sincere condolences to the supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khamenei, and we sympathize with the nation and government of Iran, and we offer our condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased. We ask the almighty God to include then in h I a massive mercy and place them in the heaven."

Lebanese Hezbollah: Publishing a statement, Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement said: "We condole Imam Mahdi, Supreme Leader, the great religious authorities, nation of Iran, and all Muslim and the free people of the world on this painful loss. We have known Martyr Sayyed Ibrahim Raisi for a long time. He was a big brother, a strong supporter and a staunch defender of the important issues of the Islamic Ummah, especially the cause of Palestine, and a supporter of resistance movements in all his positions of responsibility... Martyr Raisi was a sincere and honest servant of the Iranian nation and a loyal friend of the Supreme Leader and the great hope of all the oppressed. Our beloved brother Martyr Hossein Amir-Abdullahian also appeared in all his positions, including the position of the foreign ministry, as an active and dedicated official and loving the resistance movements and their supporter in all political and diplomatic circles."

Iraq's PMF: Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) published a poster of the late President Raisi with Iran's General Qassam Soleimani and Iraq's Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in which it expressed its condolences on demise of the Iranian president.

Palestinian Resistance Committees: The Palestinian Resistance Committees said: "We are confident that great people of Iran and its leadership will pass this big grief, as they have done in all difficult junctures. Palestine, its people and its resistance will never forget the services of these martyrs fighting for the Palestinian nation and its cause."

Hamas: Al-Mayadeen news, citing Hamas sources, reported that the resistance movement has sent its sincere condolences to the Supreme Leader, the nation, and the government of Iran."Iranian nation should know we share it its grief. Hamas movement stands by its brother nation. The martyrs of this incident were among the most prominent Iranian officials who took honorable positions in support of the Palestinian cause and the struggles of our nation. We are confident that the Islamic Republic of Iran can overcome the consequences of this great loss."

Yemen's Ansarullah: Yemen's Ansarullah movement issued a statement of condolences for Iran's loss of its president and his companions, describing the martyrdom as the "greatest medal of honor" and stressing its solidarity and sympathy with the leader and nation of Iran.
