Pro-Palestinian protest at University of Pennsylvania leads to multiple arrests

Police dismantled protest camps and arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian activists at the University of Pennsylvania in the latest crackdowns on demonstrations roiling US campuses.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Police dismantled protest camps and arrested dozens of pro-Palestinian activists at the University of Pennsylvania in the latest crackdowns on demonstrations roiling US campuses.

The University of Pennsylvania warned of a large crowd at 34th and Walnut streets in a Friday (May 17) night alert, urging students to avoid the area.

Police confirmed multiple arrests but did not specify the number.

According to Freedom School Palestine, members of the Penn Gaza Solidarity Encampment occupied Fisher Bennett Hall at 8 p.m. Their demands include disclosing Penn's investments, divesting from Israel, and supporting pro-Palestinian activists. The group plans to remain until their demands are met.

Last week, police dismantled a pro-Palestinian encampment on College Green, arresting 33 people who were later released with civil citations for trespassing, according to a Penn spokesperson.
