AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A French law professor and pro-Palestine activist has converted to Islam after reading the Quran at a refugee camp in the West Bank city of Jenin.
Franc Romaneus has been engaged in humanitarian activities at the refugee camp for years.
He was a member of the “freedom flotilla” that sought to break the siege on the Gaza Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to the Palestinians in the coastal enclave.
Franc says he first learned about Islam when he was in Morocco’s Casablanca, Al Jazeera reported.
“I had no religion at the time. I was very upset and confused. I then returned to France and after a few years went to Palestine,” he said.
Then Palestinians residing in the Jenin refugee camp invited him to join them. “They said they will help me see the light and find God.”
He then began reading the Quran in Arabic, as well as its translations in French and English and when he returned to France, he had already embraced Islam.
Franc said one factor that made him interested in Islam was the Palestinians’ steadfastness.
Their faith in God is a very important strength and that was what he decided to know more about until he converted to Islam, he said.
