Causes of disorder according to Imam Ali (a.s.)

Procrastination, undue haste and failure to consider priorities are among the causes of disorder, according to Imam Ali (AS).

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Procrastination, undue haste and failure to consider priorities are among the causes of disorder, according to Imam Ali (AS).

The causes of disorder can be divided into several groups. Sometimes living conditions, sometimes psychological issues and sometimes emotional factors may lead to disorder.

One of the factors that causes disorder is putting off today's work for tomorrow and the day after. Imam Ali (AS) says: “Do every day's work on that specific day, since each task is due to its special day.”

He also wrote in a letter to one of his companions: “Hurry up to utilize what has remained from your life and don't say tomorrow and day after, surely those who were perished before you because of their long hopes and procrastination till the order of Allah (death) came to them suddenly while they were unaware.”

Another cause of disorder is unwarranted haste. Everything should be done at the right time. Rushing only causes it to be done improperly. Imam Ali (AS), in an order to Malik Ashtar, wrote: “Avoid haste in matters before their time, slowness at their proper time, insistence on them when the propriety of action is not known or weakens when it becomes clear. Assign every matter its proper place and do every job at the appropriate time.”

If slowness and laziness enter through one door, discipline and earnestness go out through another.

Among other factors leading to disorder is failure to consider priorities. Imam Ali said: “Indeed your mind does not have the capacity for all things so keep it free for important matters.”

He also said: “He who occupies his mind and power with unimportant matters will destroy important tasks.”
