AhlulBayt News Agency: The Sayyida Zaynab Mosque in Egypt’s capital of Cairo was reopened in a ceremony after the conclusion of renovation works.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and a number of other political and religious officials and figures attended the ceremony, Al-Misri al-Youm website reported.

After entering the mosque, Sisi said Mustahab (recommended not obligatory) prayers and then unveiled the renovated Zarih of the mosque.

According to Egypt’s Awqaf ministry, those in charge of renovating the mosque were keen to ensure that renovation activities are carried out in the Islamic style.

The whole area of the mosque has columns made of white marble and it adds beauty and space to this structure.

The decorations of the mosque are also made of marble, which is not seen in other mosques in the country.

The Sayyida Zaynab Mosque is one of the largest and most famous mosques in Cairo.

Some say Hazrat Zeynab (SA), the granddaughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is buried there.

The mosque has a special and important place in the city’s history and culture and has been a main center for Quranic circles and religious gatherings for centuries.

The last time a renovation work had been carried out in the mosque was in 1969.
