AhlulBayt News Agency: The 15th assembly of the OIC initiated on Saturday in Banjul, the capital of Gambia, with a particular focus on Muslim unity and the situation in Gaza.
The OIC announced in a pre-summit statement that world leaders from its 57 member nations and beyond are in attendance.
The OIC further stated that the summit’s objective is to fortify unity “in collectively addressing the pressing challenges facing the Ummah (Muslim community) and expanding cooperation and solidarity among member countries in the pursuit of our shared goals as enshrined in the charter.”
The summit also seeks to “expand our domestic economy and revitalize small and medium enterprises,” while also “taking the opportunity to share the wealth of Gambian and African culture with the world.”
The summit, which will continue until Sunday, is centered around the theme “Enhancing unity and solidarity through dialogue for sustainable development.”
It will tackle global issues, particularly the current situation in Palestine and the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in over 34,000 martyrs.
Three pivotal documents – a draft Palestinian resolution, draft Banjul statement, and the draft final document – will be presented to the Council of Foreign Ministers for discussion, and subsequently to the summit.
