Lebanese professor: Martyr Motahhari refuted claim of Jews’ ownership of Palestine

Martyr Motahhari, both in his speeches and writings, dismissed as a distortion of history the claim that Palestine belongs to Jews.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Martyr Motahhari, both in his speeches and writings, dismissed as a distortion of history the claim that Palestine belongs to Jews.

This is according to Lebanese university professor Talal al-Atrisi. He made the remark in an address to an online seminar on ‘Palestine in the thoughts of Martyr Morteza Motahhari’.

The International Quran News Agency organized the webinar on Wednesday morning, marking the anniversary of the martyrdom of the great Muslim figure.

Atrisi said that Martyr Motahhari noted that when Muslims conquered Palestine, there were Christians and Palestinians there not Jews.

He also pointed out that in all old maps, the land is referred to as Palestine, which shows it did not belong to Jews, Atrisi stated.

The Lebanese scholar further said that Martyr Motahhari rejected the idea that Jews are a nation so that they can have the right to occupy Palestine and settle there.

Martyr Motahhari believed that any attempt at eliminating the identity of the Palestinian nation would end in failure, he went on to say.

The great Iranian thinker had a clear and strategic view about the issue of Palestine and the Palestinian nation and advocated support for Palestine at a time when the regime of Shah (the tyrant ruled Iran before the victory of the Islamic Revolution) maintained very good ties with the Israeli regime, he stated.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Atrisi said that with his works, Martyr Motahhari left a great legacy in intellectual, ideological and social fields and in responding to thoughts and ideas that sought to undermine Islamic thought.

Lebanese scholar Hojat-ol-Islam Shafiq Jaradi, Iraqi university professor Sattar Qassim Abdullah, Bahraini thinker Yaseen Fadhl al-Musawi, and Ali Motahhari, the son of Martyr Motahhari, also addressed the seminar.

Morteza Motahhari was an Iranian Twelver Shia scholar, philosopher, and lecturer. He was a disciple of Allameh Tabatabai and Imam Khomeini and a co-founder of the Combatant Clergy Association. The scholar was assassinated in 1979.

Motahhari wrote or lectured on various topics related to Islam, Iran, and history, such as Islamic philosophy, theology, ethics, jurisprudence, Quranic commentary, biography of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Imams (AS), and the event of Ashura. He also analyzed contemporary issues such as Marxism, Westernization, women's rights, and Islamic revivalism.
