Junior weightlifter bestows world medal to Imam Reza Shrine museum

Iran’s junior super-heavyweight lifter Taha Nemati has bestowed his world medal to the museum of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s junior super-heavyweight lifter Taha Nemati has bestowed his world medal to the museum of the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad.

In a ceremony that was held on Tuesday, Nemati presented the silver medal that he gained in the 2023 World Junior Championships in Guadalajara, Mexico, to the shrine.

“Before the competition began, I promised myself that if I managed to break the youth record, I would dedicate my medal to Imam Reza (AS),” he said during the event. “Having achieved this goal, I honored my promise and did just that.”

Nemati is not the only athlete who has offered their medals to the shrine’s museum. Alireza Esmaeil, an official with the shrine, said in the event that the museum is home to 87 Olympic medals as well as 90 championship trophies.

The museum sits adjacent to the holy shrine of Imam Reza (AS) in northeast Iran.

Abdul Hossein Malek Jafarian, an official with the museum said last week that the center welcomed nearly 71,000 visitors in the Iranian month of Farvardin (March 20 – April 19), marking an increase of 11,000 compared to the same period last year.
