Senior Iranian cleric urges promotion of Baqi Cemetery among Muslims

A senior Iranian cleric has called for introducing Jannatul Al-Baqi (the Baqi Cemetery) in Medina to the Muslim community worldwide.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A senior Iranian cleric has called for introducing Jannatul Al-Baqi (the Baqi Cemetery) in Medina to the Muslim community worldwide.

Hojat-ol-Islam Abdul Fattah Navab, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Hajj and Pilgrimage Affairs, made the statements on Friday while paying a visit to an exhibition at Imam Reza (AS) shrine which focuses on the Baqi cemetery.

A pressing issue with Baqi is the necessity of its introduction to society, he said, noting that tragedy lies in the fact that Baqi has not been adequately presented to the public.

Baqi is the resting place of some of the greatest figures in Islamic history, including four Imams, Fatima bint Asad, the daughters and wives of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the mother of Imam Ali (AS), as well as numerous companions, children, and spouses of the Imams, he added.

“Failing to acknowledge the significance of these eminent personalities represents a profound injustice to the Islamic community, perhaps even more so than the destruction of their resting places,” Navvab said.

The exhibition opened an exhibition focusing on April 17, 2024.

The famous cemetery in the holy city of Medina is where Imam Hassan (AS), Imam Sajjad (AS), Imam Baqir (AS), and Imam Sadiq (AS) have been buried.

Mausoleums in the Baqi cemetery were completely demolished by Wahhabi extremists on the 8th of Shawwal in the year 1345 AH (April 21, 1925).

In the same year, the Saudi authorities also demolished the tombs of holy personalities at Jannat al-Mualla (Makkah) where the Holy Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) mother, wife, grandfather, and other ancestors are buried.

The exhibition in Mashhad will close on May 9.
