To Dry the Parts to Be Wiped in Wuḍū’
Question1: Is it necessary to dry the drops on the feet before wiping?
Answer: The parts to be wiped must be dry or not so wet that the hand's moisture does not affect it. Therefore, you may dry your foot or wipe (make masḥ) on another part of your foot which is dry or not too wet.
Forgetting Two Prostrations of Inadvertence and Caution Prayer
Question2: If someone's duty is to perform sajdah of sahw or to perform caution prayer but he forgets it after the prayer and remembers it after a long time, what is his duty?
Answer: Whenever he remembers the sajdah of sahw, he perform it, but whenever he remembers the caution prayer, according to the obligatory caution, in addition to performing it, he should repeat the prayer as well.
Reply to Salām in a SMS
Question3: If someone greets you in a letter or SMS and then asks a question, is it obligatory to give answer to it?
Answer: It is not obligatory to give answer to salām, except in face-to-face meetings, telephone conversations, and the like.
Zakat on Grapes
Question4: Should a person, who has a grape grove and does not want to turn the grapes into raisins (for example he sells it, consumes it as fruit, or turns it into juice), pay its zakat? Does the same rule apply currant?
Answer: If there are enough grapes so that he can have 847.207 kg of raisins/currant by converting grapes into raisins/currant, then he must pay zakat on the grapes. The same rule applies whether the product will be raisin or currant.
Network Marketing
Question5: What is the ruling on network marketing transactions?
If the transactions in question are halal (for example, are not related to pork or win), it is no problem provided that the following conditions are met:
a) no entrance fee is charged; yet, for example, there is no problem in charging for education;
b) the earnings of the participants should be specified exactly;
c) payment of any remuneration and bonus to the participants must be based on the reasonable and legitimate activity that he will perform.
A Device Left by the Guest
Question6: Our guest left a device in our house and although he was supposed to come back and pick it up, but a long time passed and he did not come. Moreover, there is no access to him anymore, what is our duty now?
Answer: If you are desperate to reach its owner, you can give the device or its price to the poor on behalf of the owner.
The Method of Calculating Khums on Consumer Goods
Question7: How is khums calculated on consumer goods left at home at the beginning of the Khums year, such as rice, oil, tea, sugar, detergents, etc.?
Answer: If it is one of the goods that can be procured as much as you need, i.e. unpacked (such as beans, meat), the remaining amount is subject to khums. However, if it is procured in a pack and the required quantity is purchased, what remains from a pack is not subject to khums.
Rehiring by a Hire
Question8: I was hired to paint a building and I received the compensation, then I hired someone else to do it with a lower compensation. Is it permissible?
Answer: It is not permissible, unless, firstly, the employer has not stipulated that the work be done by you, and secondly, you have done some of the work so that you can give it to someone else at a lower price. In general, you can hire another person to do the whole job, only at the first contract price.
