Allamah Muhammad Baqir Majlesi, popularly known as Majlesi II, was born in 1037 AH in Isfahan.

His father, “Allamah Mohammad Taqi Majlisi”, was one of the great students of “Sheikh Bahai” and one of the leaders of his time in Islamic sciences.

He engaged in Islamic studies at the age of four with his father, and due to his extraordinary talent and genius, at the age of fourteen, he received permission from Mulla Sadra to narrate hadith.

After years of tireless effort and gaining knowledge from over 21 renowned scholars of his time, Allamah gained a comprehensive command of the knowledge of grammar and syntax, meanings and expressions, mathematics, history, philosophy of hadith, rijal, darayah, usul, jurisprudence and kalam.

Allamah Majlesi left the intellectual sciences and strived to revitalize the sciences of the Ahl al-Bayt, peace be upon them, bringing the “Four Books” of cardinal Shia hadith collections to the focus of seminaries.

He encouraged the seminarians, who were distanced from narrations and hadiths for a long time, to study and research in the narrations of Ahlul-Bayt, encouraging preservation of these invaluable collections of Shia hadiths.

As the works of Ahlul-Bayt were in serious danger of distortion and destruction by the enemies of the religion of God, Allamah started an all-out effort to acquire Shia works and documented two hundred of the four hundred valid Shia Usul and also prepared the most exquisite Shia library.

The collection of hadiths and narrations of Ahlul-Bayt, peace be upon them, prompted Allamah Majlisi to write the precious book Bihar al-Anwar, which he compiled in one hundred and ten volumes.

Over six hundred volumes of written work have been attributed to Allamah.

Allamah Mohammad Baqir Majlesi passed away on the 27th day of the month of Ramadan, 1111 AH, at the age of 73. His pure body was buried next to Isfahan Jame Mosque and next to his father, Allamah Mohammad Taqi Majlesi.
