Islamophobia in US: Connecticut Mosque targeted with bag of Pork

In Bridgeport, Connecticut, an incident at Masjid An Noor has raised concerns within the local Muslim community.

AhlulBayt News Agency: In Bridgeport, Connecticut, an incident at Masjid An Noor has raised concerns within the local Muslim community.

A bag containing pork, a substance forbidden in Islam, was placed at the mosque's entrance. The act, captured on surveillance, is being perceived as an intentional affront, particularly as it coincides with the observance of Ramadan.

Farhan Memon, the chairperson of the Connecticut chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-CT), condemned the act as a deliberate expression of hatred and intimidation.

“Leaving a bag of pork at a mosque, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan, is a blatant act of hate, disrespect and intimidation,” he said.

Memon emphasized the incident's gravity, not as an “isolated” event but as a “targeted” attempt to disrupt Muslim religious practices.

CAIR-CT has appealed for an investigation by law enforcement, classifying the event as a potential hate crime, and has called for public assistance in identifying the individual responsible.

The rights group recently released new civil rights data showing that it has received 3,578 complaints during the last three months of 2023 amid an ongoing wave of anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian hate.
