Thai PM wishes Muslims in Ramadan message

The prime minister of Thailand congratulated Muslims in his country and elsewhere in the world on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The prime minister of Thailand congratulated Muslims in his country and elsewhere in the world on the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan.

Srettha Thavisin said in a message that Muslims unite in Ramadan to fast in accordance with Islamic principles so as to purify their body and soul and strive in good deeds, which brings divine reward.

Ramadan is also an opportunity for paying respect to the Holy Quran that God has sent as a guide for life, he added.

The Thai premier also highlighted the benefits and virtues of Ramadan, saying it contributes to enhancing self-control, patience, tolerance, and perseverance and overcoming obstacles with a strong faith.

He hoped that Muslims’ acts of worship during Ramadan would be accepted by God, wishing them health, happiness and the fulfilment of their wishes.

Thavisin also expressed hope that Muslims can play a role in promoting peace in Thailand.

Thailand is a country at the center of the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia.

Muslims are the second largest religious group in Thailand making up about five percent of the country’s 70 million population.

Ramadan, which began on Tuesday, March 12, this year, is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.

The Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) heart in this month.

During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
