Israel, mediators agree to temporary Gaza truce: US

The White House says the Israeli regime and mediators from the US, Qatar and Egypt have reach an agreement to establish a temporary ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The White House says the Israeli regime and mediators from the US, Qatar and Egypt have reach an agreement to establish a temporary ceasefire in exchange for the release of Israeli captives held in Gaza.

In an interview with CNN on Sunday evening, the US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said that the mediating parties have reached an agreement on the general terms of establishing a temporary ceasefire but negotiations are still ongoing.

“I am not going to go into the details of this agreement because the talks are still underway. I hope that in the coming days we will see a definite and final agreement”, he said.

On Friday, a delegation led by David Barnea, the head of Israeli spy agency Mossad travelled to Paris for a fresh push towards a deal amid pressure at home to bring captives back.

The US, Egypt and Qatar have all been deeply involved in past negotiations, with the Qatari and Egyptian representatives acting as mediators between Hamas and Israel because they do not talk directly to each other.

Hamas was reportedly briefed by Qatari and Egyptian delegations at the Paris talks, but negotiators have said any final deal is at least days away as they work to agree on the details of a practical deal.

Hamas had previously responded to the proposals regarding the potential ceasefire, setting several demands, including the complete end of the Israeli war, the withdrawal of Zionist forces from Gaza, the flow of aid and reconstruction of the strip for a deal with Israel.
