AhlulBayt News Agency: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) slammed the move by the United States to veto a UN Security Council draft resolution on the situation in Gaza.
The OIC expressed its deep regret over the failure of the Security Council to adopt the draft resolution to end the Israeli regime's brutal aggression in the Gaza Strip.
The OIC also regretted deeply the United States’ use of veto against the draft resolution, describing it as a negative reflection of the Security Council’s role in the maintenance of international peace and security, protection of civilians and ensuring delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
The OIC renewed its call on the international community, particularly the Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and take urgent measures to stop the genocide facing the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
On Tuesday, the Arab nations, led by Algeria, put a draft resolution to a vote with the expectation that it would not pass after the US –Israel’s key ally– had warned it would not back the text and proposed a rival draft instead.
The US was the only country to vote against the draft text while the UK abstained. The UN Security Council’s 13 other member countries voted in favor of the text demanding a halt to the Israeli war on Gaza.
The Zionist regime’s attacks on the coastal enclave since October 7 have killed over 29,000 people, mostly women and children, and displaced more than 80 percent of population in the enclave.
