AhlulBayt News Agency: The UN Security Council is expected to hold an emergency meeting on Monday to address the US’s recent air strikes on Iraq and Syria.
The meeting comes at the request of Russia, the AFP news agency reported, citing diplomatic sources.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova earlier condemned the air strikes, which she said: “demonstrated to the world the aggressive nature of US policy in the Middle East and Washington’s complete disregard for international law”.
On January 28, the drone attack of the Iraqi resistance forces on the American military base in Jordan killed three American soldiers and injured at least 34 others.
While accusing Iran, the United States announced that it would retaliate soon.
The US conducted major airstrikes on 85 targets across seven locations in Iraq and Syria on Frida, February 2. The Iraqi government announced the death of 16 people, and two dozen injured in the country as a result of the US Friday attacks.
The Syrian military on Saturday also said the US strikes had killed civilians and soldiers and caused “significant damage” to infrastructure.
