AhlulBayt News Agency: Participants in an international Quran competition in Port Said, Egypt, held a demonstration in support of the oppressed people of Gaza.
They attended the Friday prayers at the city’s Ash-Shati Mosque and then rallied from the mosque to the Ash-Shuhada (Martyrs) Square to voice solidarity with the people of Gaza, Cairo24 website reported.
Adil Muslihi, the competition’s executive director, said the rally was aimed at conveying the message to the world that the massacre of people in the Gaza Strip must stop and peace must prevail in the world.
The Israeli regime has killed more than 27,000 people in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023. The military onslaught has caused mass displacement and destruction and created conditions for famine in Gaza.
The 7th edition of the Port Said international Holy Quran competition was launched in a ceremony later on Friday.
Egypt’s Awqaf Minister Mohammed Mukhtar Gomaa and a number of other officials attended the opening ceremony.
The contest has been organized in the categories of memorization of the Holy Quran and Ibtihal with support from Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
This year’s edition has been named after renowned Egyptian qari Sheikh Shahat Muhammad Anwar (1950-2008).
