AhlulBayt News Agency: South Africa has called on the world’s countries to act immediately to stop the genocide that is being committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip.
South African foreign minister Naledi Pandor told journalists on Wednesday that all countries must stop funding and supporting Israel’s military practices in Gaza after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) made clear that those actions could be genocidal.
“The finding [by the ICJ] we think makes it clear that it is plausible that genocide is taking place against the Palestinian people in Gaza,” Pandor told reporters. “This necessarily imposes an obligation on all states to cease funding and facilitating Israel’s military actions.”
The foreign minister stressed that Israel flouted the international court’s ruling and the world has to take action in this regard.
The minister also said that she had met the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) last week to discuss a joint referral South Africa made last November with other countries about the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
“I asked him why he was able to issue an arrest warrant for Mr. Putin and is unable to do so for the prime minister of Israel. He did not answer that question, but I read into some of what he said that the investigations are still underway,” she told reporters.
