AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Iran Abdullah bin Saud Alanazi has said that the technical issues causing a delay in the Umrah Hajj pilgrimage by Iranian pilgrims would be resolved soon.
The Saudi ambassador made the comment as he met with Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi in Tehran on Wednesday.
The ambassador promised that the technical issues that have delayed the Umrah pilgrimage for Iranian pilgrims would be resolved soon.
His comments follow negotiations held between Saudi and Iranian delegations in Tehran throughout last week, which were described as positive and raised expectations that Iranian Umrah pilgrims would soon be able to visit the kingdom for the pilgrimage.
The Saudi ambassador and the Iranian interior minister also discussed relations between the two countries as well as regional issues.
Alanazi said that ties between Tehran and Riyadh are on their right and normal path, noting that Saudi Arabia considers Iran as a key and brotherly neighboring country.
The Iranian minister, for his part, said that Tehran and Riyadh are two influential and important countries in the region, the Islamic world and beyond, adding that certain states are trying to interfere in the two countries’ relations, but both nations should not allow the third parties to achieve their goals.
Iran and Saudi Arabia resumed diplomatic relations under a China-brokered deal in March 2023 after seven years.
On October 24, 2023, during a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Ambassador Alanazi termed Iran and Saudi Arabia’s ties very strong and called for strengthening cooperation between the two sides.
And, in an exclusive interview with IRNA, Alanazi expressed satisfaction with the beginning of a new chapter in his country’s relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that the revived ties will be strong in all fields including trade, economy, and investment.
