Madagascar youths write Quran verses in Itikaf ritual

Dozens of young Muslims in Madagascar participated in a unique event as part of the Itikaf ritual, which ended on January 26, 2024.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Dozens of young Muslims in Madagascar participated in a unique event as part of the Itikaf ritual, which ended on January 26, 2024.

They wrote down two chapters of the Quran, Surahs Ad-Dhuha and Al-Inshirah, in Arabic script.

The head of the Imam Reza (AS) Complex in Antananarivo, where the Itikaf ritual was held, said the works were a "lasting artwork" for the African youths who were less familiar with Arabic.

Nine of the best writings were awarded prizes.

Itikaf is a spiritual practice in Islam that involves staying in a mosque, fasting, and praying to God for a certain number of days.

It is a tradition of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his family, and is considered a highly rewarding act of worship. It is usually performed on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic calendar.

Madagascar is an island nation in Africa, where Islam has been present for centuries. About ten percent of its population are Muslims.
