AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini people poured into the streets to protest the existence of the US Navy base in Bahrain as well as the Israeli regime’s embassy in the capital city of Manama.
According to Palestinian Shahab News Agency, the protesters with Palestinian flags on their hands chanted slogans against relentless crimes committed by the Israeli regime against Gaza residents and called for the continuation of armed resistance by Palestinian factions and the removal of the United States military base in Bahrain.
The Arab country has been hosting the largest US navy base since 1971, so Bahrain has become the most important non-NATO ally of Washington.
Following the independence of Bahrain from Iran in 1971, the new leaders of the Arab country kicked off diplomatic relationships with the US and opened the first American embassy in Manama, and the then-American officials opened its navy base in the Bahraini capital city.
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, the US strengthened the navy base in Bahrain to amend the vacuum, which was emerged following the fall of its ally in the region.
Bahrain and the US signed a defense cooperation agreement in October 1991; then, the US forces were allowed to have unlimited access to the Arab country’s facilities. Now, Bahrain is hosting the United States Fifth Fleet.
