Thai Mosque’s sesquicentennial celebrated

A ceremony was held in a northern region of Thailand to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of a mosque in the region.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A ceremony was held in a northern region of Thailand to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of a mosque in the region.

The ceremony was attended by the Sheikhul Islam, Arun Boonchom, as well as a Thai deputy interior minister and other officials.

The An-Noor Mosque, which was opened one and a half centuries ago, is the first and largest Muslim place of worship in Chiang Mai.

It had been closed to worshippers for two years for repair and renovation and was reopened in November 2023.

Chiang Mai is the largest city in north of Thailand and has a diverse community.

It has a large population of Muslims and several mosques, including An-Noor, Banhou and Chang Lai mosques.

Also, halal food and products are readily accessible and there are various halal restaurants in the city.

Thailand is a country at the center of the Indochinese peninsula in Southeast Asia.

Muslims are the second largest religious group in Thailand making up about five percent of the country’s population.
