A funeral ceremony has been held for the father of Tunisian martyr Kamal Korsel, with the cultural attaché and several staff members of the Iranian Embassy in Tunisia in attendance.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A funeral ceremony has been held for the father of Tunisian martyr Kamal Korsel, with the cultural attaché and several staff members of the Iranian Embassy in Tunisia in attendance.

Mohammad Ebadi, the head of the Islamic Republic of Iran's mission in Tunisia, said on Monday that the ceremony was attended by Hadi Ajili, Iran’s cultural attaché in Tunisia and other embassy staff members, who conveyed the Islamic Republic’s condolences to the family of martyr Kamal Korsel, IRNA reported.

Kamal Korsel was martyred during the Mersad Operation of 1988, one of the last major military operations during the Iraq-Iran War.

He was originally named Jerome Emmanuel, and was born on April 9, 1964 in France to a French mother and a Tunisian father. During his youth, he traveled to Tunisia where he became familiar with Islam and embraced the faith.

In 1982, Kamal Korsel traveled to Iran and decided to pursue religious studies in the Seminary of Qom. Throughout this period, Korsel, along with other seminary students, visited Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.
