Iran proposes formation of joint court with Iraq over Gen. Soleimani, Abu Muhandis assassination

Iran has proposed the establishment of a joint court with neighboring Iraq to investigate various dimensions of the US assassination of anti-terror icons Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran has proposed the establishment of a joint court with neighboring Iraq to investigate various dimensions of the US assassination of anti-terror icons Lieutenant General Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.

The proposal was made by Abbas Ali Kadkhodaie, who heads the Iranian special committee for legally and internationally pursuing the assassination case of General Soleimani.

Kadkhodaie proposed the formation of the joint court as he addressed an international conference held at the University of Baghdad on Sunday, which discussed the assassination of the two commanders.

The conference was also attended by ambassadors, academics, lawyers as well as political representatives from Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Venezuela and Yemen.

The United States, by order of former president Donald Trump, assassinated General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the commander of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions by targeting their vehicles outside Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.

Iran and Iraq have time and again said that it is their legitimate right under international law to pursue legal proceedings aimed at holding accountable and bringing to justice the perpetrators, organizers, and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism.
