Tens of thousands demonstrate in Melbourne, call for ceasefire in Gaza

Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Australian capital city of Melbourne on Saturday to express solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and call for an immediate ceasefire there.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Australian capital city of Melbourne on Saturday to express solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and call for an immediate ceasefire there.

Footage shows protesters marching while holding Palestinian flags and signs reading, "One child is too many! But 11,500…? Stop bombing kids" and "More than 100 Palestinian children killed by Israel every day. Why are you silent?"

They also chanted, "Israel, USA, how many kids did you kill today?" and "In the thousands, in the millions, we are all Palestinians!"

One of the organizers stated that for two consecutive weekends about a hundred thousand people have participated in their demonstrations in support of Palestine.

She added that all protesters support the values that the Palestinian cause stands for, including humanity, freedom, justice and equality.

"The Australian people see images of children being killed [and] families being torn apart. They see kids without parents being discharged from a hospital with no home to go to. And they want our government to lend its support and its strength to end the bombing, [and] to end the killing," a protester was quoted by AFP as saying.

Thousands of demonstrators have been gathering in Melbourne for twelve weeks in a row, supporting people of Gaza and demanding a lasting ceasefire and the recognition of fundamental rights of freedom and self-determination for the Palestinian people.

Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza on October 7 following an operation by the territory’s resistance movements, dubbed Operation al-Aqsa Storm. The historic operation came in response to the regime’s decades-long violence against Palestinians.

Since the start of its military aggression, the Israeli regime has killed at least 21,672 Palestinians, mostly women and children, while injuring over 56,000 others.
