AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva has said that the Monday assassination of an Iranian commander in a Zionist attack in Syria was a violation of international human rights law.
The mission said on Wednesday that the recent assassination, which took place out of any active armed conflict in Damascus, was not only a violation of international law and the UN Charter, but also breached the international human rights law.
Iranian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN Amir Saeed Iravani also wrote a letter to UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UNSC President Jose de la Gasca Lopezdomingue last night which said that Iran has its legitimate and inherent rights based on international law and the United Nations Charter for a decisive response at the appropriate time.
“Iran also reaffirms the inherent right of the Syrian Arab Republic, under international law, to take all necessary measures in response to terrorist attacks and acts of aggression by the Israeli regime against its sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” Iravani said.
