AhlulBayt News Agency: Bringing hate crime charges against a man suspected of tagging his building with threatening anti-Muslim graffiti has been hailed by an US Muslim advocacy group.
The New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NY) on Friday welcomed the move.
A 76-year-old man has been charged with one count of criminal mischief in the third degree as a hate crime; one count of criminal mischief in the third degree; and eight counts of making graffiti.
He is accused of scrawling anti-Muslim threats targeting his condo board on 8 walls of 4 floors in his building.
The man reportedly has a history of antagonizing other residents.
“We welcome the arrest of the suspect in this disturbing case and hope that justice will be done. Intimidation through racist messaging is never acceptable.” said CAIR-NY Executive Director Afaf Nasher.
