AhlulBayt News Agency: The Grand Mufti of Oman cited verses from the Holy Quran to disprove those criticizing the Hamas operation against the Zionist regime.
Some Salafist figures recently criticized the Al-Aqsa Flood Operation launched against Israeli on October 7.
Oman’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili rejected their view and said Jihad against those who attack Muslims is an obligation based on the Holy Quran.
In a statement published on his X account, he cited verse 36 of Surah Al-Ahzab, “The believing men and women must not feel free to do something in their affairs other than that which has been already decided for them by God and His Messenger. One who disobeys God and His Messenger is in plain error,“ and said Jihad against invaders is a necessity and no one is allowed to distort divine commandments, because it would mean deviation.
He said based on Verses 45-47 of Surah At-Tawbah, if the enemies attack Muslims, it would be necessary for Muslims to launch Jihad against them.
The Verses say, “Only those who do not believe in God and the Day of Judgment ask you such questions because their hearts are full of doubts and they cannot make any final decisions. Had they (the hypocrites) wanted to join your army, they would have prepared themselves, but God did not wish to motivate them, so He caused them to linger behind with those whose joining you in battle would be of no use. Had they joined you, they would have been of no help to you but would have just caused confusion and trouble among you by sneaking through the ranks where some of you would be ready to listen to them. God knows best the unjust.”
Sheikh Al Khalili further referred to verses from Surah Muhammad, Surah Ibrahim and Surah Al-A’araf to underline the need not to attribute things to the religion without having knowledge about it.
The Al-Aqsa Flood Operation was carried out by the Hamas resistance movement against Israel on October 7 in response to the Israeli atrocities in occupied territories and its violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
It included missile attacks on occupied cities and ground assaults on settlements near Gaza. That operation plus retaliatory missile strikes by Palestinian resistance groups left hundreds of Israelis dead.
