AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has expressed regret over a recent US veto of a UN Security Council resolution on a ceasefire in Gaza, describing the veto as permission to continue genocide against people in the besieged Palestinian territory.
The top Iranian diplomat discussed the Gaza war with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the phone on Monday, three days after the US vetoed the resolution at the latest Security Council’s meeting since the Israeli regime waged its war on Gaza on October 7.
Amirabdollahian reiterated calls for an immediate stop to Israel’s war crimes against Gazans and sending humanitarian assistance to the besieged enclave.
Lavrov, on his part, emphasized the need for continued efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, send more humanitarian aid to the territory, and to form an independent Palestinian state.
The two foreign ministers also discussed relations between their countries as well as a last week meeting between President Ebrahim Raisi and his Russian counterpart Vladmir Putin in Moscow.
Lavrov called the meeting very important. Amirabdollahian stressed the importance of continued negotiations between top Iranian and Russian officials.
