Muslim leader in Germany warns of 'climate of fear' after Gaza war

A Muslim leader in Germany has expressed his concern over the rising anti-Muslim sentiments in the country following the war between the Israeli regime and Hamas in Gaza.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Muslim leader in Germany has expressed his concern over the rising anti-Muslim sentiments in the country following the war between the Israeli regime and Hamas in Gaza.

Aiman Mazyek, the head of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, said on Monday that the Muslim community faced more attacks on mosques and individuals in the past weeks than ever before. “We have attacks on Muslims and also those who are perceived to be Muslims at a rate like never before,” he added.

He said he was "very, very worried" about the security of Muslims in Germany, who could be targeted for their religion or appearance.

He cited the example of a shooting attack in Vermont, US, where three Palestinians were wounded for wearing the Palestinian scarf and speaking Arabic.

The German government also condemned the anti-Muslim attacks and said they were "absolutely unacceptable".

Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said on Nov. 6 that the nearly 5 million Muslims in Germany had the right to be protected.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, which started on Oct. 7, has sparked protests and tensions in many countries, including Germany.

The conflict has also led to a significant increase in anti-Muslim sentiments in Western countries as experts blame the biased presentation of the war in the mainstream media as a reason behind the surge.
