Mauritania on Tuesday canceled celebrations of the country’s independence anniversary this year in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to Zionist-American aggression since October 7.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Mauritania on Tuesday canceled celebrations of the country’s independence anniversary this year in solidarity with the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to Zionist-American aggression since October 7.

According to the Anadolu Agency, the celebration activities of the anniversary of independence were limited to a ceremony to raise the flag at the presidential palace in the capital Nouakchott, in the presence of President Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, members of his government, and political and military officials.

On November 28, 2019, Mauritania celebrated the anniversary of its independence from France.

On the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of independence, Ghazouani said in a speech on Tuesday: “There is no compromise in standing firmly and strongly with the Palestinian cause, which for us is the oppression of the people, the sanctity of sanctities and the support of brothers.”

A few days ago, the Mauritanian government announced in a statement that President Ghazouani had issued instructions to cancel all aspects of the celebration of the anniversary of independence this year, “following the Israeli barbaric aggression on the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Over the past weeks, Mauritania has witnessed numerous marches and rallies in solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for an end to the war on Gaza, where some 2.3 million Palestinians live.
